From a slow start to a seat of your pants finale this game had everything.
Oxford were slow out of the blocks and had the worst period of hockey they had played in a long time, after a good talking to in the break, they came out for the second period and started to play the way we know they can and pulled a goal back to make it 1-3 at the end of the second.
In the break, a few adjustments were made and the team knew they still had a chance, the fight back was on.
We got another goal back to make it 3-2 with 11 minutes to go. With 3.42 to go Streatham got goal number 4. then with 2.06 left on the clock... drama in the Streatham goal mouth, a player had covered the puck in the crease, giving Oxford a penalty shot. Raff stepped up to take it with the Streatham fans making as much noise to try and put him off, you could feel the tension on the Oxford bench and in the crowd... GOAL! Raff had cooly put the puck in the back of the net! Oxford and Streatham both got penalties making it 4 on 4, Oxford then put Streatham under pressure in their zone. Jeff pulled the net minder to give Oxford the extra man, 10 seconds later goal number 4 tying the game at 4-4 with 47 seconds to go this meant Streatham got their player back from the penalty box, giving them a one man advantage. 44.30 GOAL! Streatham get goal number 5 and manage to soak up the pressure from a full strength Oxford for the last 30 seconds to win 4-5.
Charlie got the spirit for Oxford for playing a gritty game while in pain from her injured foot that had kept her off the ice against Slough last week.
Alex Humm got a well deserved MOM for facing 64 shots and stopping 59 of them.
Next week we do it all again... where's my Valium!

ESCAPE FROM VICTORY

What a game for the last home game of the season. The excitement exceeded the matches against Swindon which we won 5-4 back in February, plus the 4-4 home draw against Slough the following week. The excitement on the Ice was added to by the entertainment provided by Stevie K and a rather opininated Streatham mum close behind in stands !!.
Well done team, a well deserved and respectable 5th place confirmed following Harringey's 1-0 win over Slough last night. Now to the final game of the season at Streatham next week, before turning our attention to the final run-in for top spot, can Milton Keynes pip Lee Valley, but with two of their three remaining games against Invicta it will be a tough challenge.
Great game to watch. It was definitely edge of your seat (well I was standing) towards the end of the game. Definitely looking forward to next week's return leg!
